2017 has been an interesting year for me as an entrepreneur, a father and as a husband. There have been many lessons learned, challenges overcomed, mistakes made and successes recorded. I have decided to compress the vital lessons of the year and I believe you can learn from them too.
Build relationship: Relationship is more important than money. How far you go in your life is based on the relationships you build. Even though I have met a lot of people that focus more on money, I can say from my experience that the most important thing any person can have is to build quality relationships. There are certain places and doors that money cannot get you through, but with the right relationships and connections, you can open practically any door. Invest your time in 2018 to initiate, nurture and grow relationships.
Not every good thing you see is for you. Not all business is good business. Not all friendship should be kept. What should determine your actions is your vision for your life and business. A lot of young people spend their time running after flashy things, which they later discover that it is not what they thought it was in the long run. Learn to be driven by your vision as you make friends and build your career and business in 2018.
Focus on one thing at a time. While multitasking can be an interesting skill to have, you will be your most efficient, when you focus on one thing at a time. Even God, who could create the whole world in a day, he took his time and focused on creating each part of the universe, one day at a time. Learn to focus on one thing at a time.
Have patience with others: Don’t get upset when people around you don’t always keep up with your pace as you build your business or pursue your passion. You are the one with the vision and it takes times and practice to transfer vision to the understanding of others. Learn to have patience with them.
Success has a prize: be prepared to pay the prize for success. Be prepared to work late if it is required. Success is not for lazy people. You have to be willing to work hard, make commitment and remain disciplined to achieve success. There are no shortcuts, only hard work.
Every decision has consequences: In science, it is said that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. What this means is that every action and decision you make has its corresponding consequences. With this knowledge in mind, you will learn to evaluate the quality of your decisions as well as ensure to be quick to make corrections when necessary.
Build a structure: if you want your business to last, focus on building structures. And for structures’ to work, you need to get the right people in the right job roles. I had a lot of travels in 2017 and was away many times from my businesses, but all my businesses ran independent of me. People go, people come but structures remain
In summary, the year 2017 was an interesting year of learning and growth. I am positioned in this new year, to consolidate on all these lessons I have learned, to increase my impact as a business man, a mentor and in my family.
Let’s go and conquer 2018.
