Nearly every university prides itself on academic excellence by demonstrating the ability to produce world leading research and excellent pedagogy. Taught programmes such as Masters and undergraduate degrees are teaching-focused thus hindering the development of essential research skills. This is my overarching goal of pursuing a doctorate, essentially to expand my knowledge of research procedures and processes and be able to produce an original and substantive piece of research. The purpose of this SWOT analysis is to explain my commitment to this research journey, firstly by explaining why I am pursuing a doctorate. Secondly, a SWOT analysis is used to examine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that are likely to surface throughout my research journey.
